Overview
The main objective of AP® United States History Period 3 guide is to analyze the events that led up to the American Revolution, American independence, and the early years of American nationhood.
Before 1754, the colonists had been enjoying salutary neglect—meaning that the British weren’t exerting much control over them, and they were developing their own methods of self-government. However, with the advent of the French and Indian War in 1754, the British government changed tactics.
